Taos; a place where the desert meets the mountains, the sunshine meets the snow, and cultures connect.
Originally founded by miners back in 1800, Taos Ski Valley as we know it was founded by Ernie and Rhoda Blake in 1955 and transformed into a world class ski destination.
With an average snowfall of 120 inches and an average of over 300 days of sunshine, Taos Ski Valley is the perfect winter wonderland. Stretching up 12,450 feet, the mountain has runs for every level of skier (24% beginner, 25% intermediate, 51% expert).
Rio Hondo Condominiums was built in 1972. Located right on the Rio Hondo river and directly next to the Children’s Center and Ski School, it is the perfect location for families to launch their mountain adventure. Rio Hondo Condominiums is in Taos Ski Valley conveniently located directly next door to the Children’s Ski School, the beginner hill and the new gondola (that goes to the base area restaurants and shops) and the new three-seat lift which you can ride up and then ski down to lift 1. Lift 1 takes skiers up the front side of the mountain and provides access to all mountain terrain. Staying at Rio Hondo, you will walk approximately 100 yards to the new lifts.
Each of Rio Hondo’s units are individually owned and each has it’s own flash and flair. Check out our taos ski valley lodging to compare and select the one best suited for your group.
Taos Ski Valley lodging boasts 110 runs, 15 lifts, a vertical drop of 3,250 feet, and can carry up to 15,000 skiers per hour up the mountain. Big powder or manicured runs, rugged downhill or groomed slopes, our Freestyle Terrain Park, or our expansive Hike-To Terrain; at Taos Ski Valley you can ski until your legs are begging for our RHC hot tub.
We have many other ways for you to enjoy the area.
Visiting us in the non-ski months, our sun-drenched landscape is the perfect stage for your outdoor adventures.
